4 Ways To Be Green This Week

Earth week is an important aspect of the services and processes ran here at City Carting. Each and every day, we strive to better ourselves both for our company, and loyal clients. As Earth Day approaches, we’d like to highlight a few things that in addition to mindful waste management, you can perform at home. These simple tricks are a great way to improve life at home while also reducing footprint!

  1. Conserving Water. This might seem easy, but you can also jump start the process in many ways. Opt for a low-flow showerhead, and have a bucket in the shower that collects spare water! Use this to water plants, or wash the car & family dog!
  2. Reuse What You Use. In addition to the normal plastic bottles and other items, think about the other parts of your day that could be switched around. Change from using paper towels and disposable cutlery for the reusable forms! This helps for BBQ’s and other get-togethers when it might seem easier, but creates more garbage to worry about. Pair this with a low flow sink nozzle, and you can save double!
  3. Use Less Energy. The weather is getting nicer, and sunlight is your friend! Open up those windows and let the vitamin D soak up your living room. At night, use energy efficient light bulbs and shut down electronics that can produce heat, and waste energy.
  4. Cleaning Products. Instead of buying the clever marketing efforts of big companies who advertise ‘green’ options for home cleaning, make them yourself! There are a ton of things that you can do with household items which replicate the big brands, and do a great job!

While you might think your lifestyle is green enough, there are always different ways to switch up your tactics and make less of an impact each day! A great way to do so also begins with effective waste management at home — something City Carting has been doing for years!

3 Ways To Improve Overall Trash Management

At home, your trash can accumulate into big heaping piles before you know it — and it can be a huge pain in your side to clean. Instead of worrying about all of it accumulating before your eyes at home, consider a way you can improve the management of your waste, and how you can reduce your overall contribution to landfills. We’ve got a few ideas below that we encourage you to try, especially before the weather gets warm!

Food Waste

For the food that goes uneaten, it’s a good idea to consider which kind you can use for recycling purposes. A ton of foods that would otherwise end up in the trash can be used for compost material right in your backyard! This nifty addition enables you to enjoy free, rich soil for your plants and garden throughout the year! For non perishables that also go uneaten consider donating them to a shelter where their use would be much appreciated.

Reusing Plastic

Instead of tossing plastics and things that can’t be used more than once at home, recycle it! Giving your garbage new life is a great way to keep it from getting tossed in an area in which it doesn’t belong, which can harm the environment as a whole. You can create a TON of things at home from the old items that would be in the trash without your help

Waste Management

One of the easiest ways to manage your trash better is to hire someone who you can trust to take it away. For this reason, an independent waste management service is the perfect addition to your arsenal at home and can save you a ton of headaches. Instead of worrying about it yourself, just leave it at the curb and we’ll take care of it!

3 Spring Cleaning Changes You Can Make

Spring resolutions are something that not only you can benefit from, but your home as well. In a world where being mindful of your waste is always important, there's no better time to reassess your waste strategy and see what you can do to improve the lifestyle at home, work, and on the go. Instead of making resolutions, consider the commitment to a lifestyle that is solely focused on improving the footprint you leave on the world. Below are a few things you can do to improve your tactics and daily routines.

Bottle Recycling

Instead of using all of that plastic for water bottles each day, why not consider the option to use a refillable bottle with a filter? The overall costs are not only much lower, but the reduced plastic usage is extremely beneficial to the environment as a whole! The best part? It takes little to not effort!

Safe Cleaners

Instead of aerosol cans, you can opt for things that are safe on the environment, in your home, and everywhere else. These cleaners can be simple combinations of household ingredients or basic soaps and water that have little to no effect on the air you breathe. In addition to saving you money for other things, this cab also aid in saving your air from chemicals, making it much cleaner to breathe.

Waste Management

As small as it might seem, an independent waste management service might be right up your alley -- especially if you're concerned about where your garbage is going, and what's being done with it. In order to combat this, a reputable provider of waste management cab allocate important aspects of your trash for recycling and reuse, maximizing opportunity and reducing footprint.

3 Ways To Reuse Old Paper

Old paper is one of the best things to have at home. Of course it's a good tool to have when brushing up on your reading, but it's also great for reusing for other purposes. Lets face it, recycling is important, and in order to keep our planet healthy, we need to be doing more of it. starting at home, paper is a great tool to use for recycling because it has many uses Beyond original intent. here are a few ways to use paper at home in a number of ways to reduce your footprint.

Packing Insulation

whether you're moving out or selling something online you can recycle paper by using it to wrap fragile items and protect other things that you might have to send through the mail. this provides cheap insulation and protection to sensitive items without the cost of expensive and harmful plastic air packaging

Paper Mache

Rainy day with the kids? Making a fun piece of paper mache is a great way to reuse old paper and give the kids something to put in their room, or give to someone as a gift! The best part is, it can also be recycled once it's too old. These little projects are endless and can entertain even the adults on a crummy day inside.

Wood Logs

Paper is a great way to (safely) start a fire with logs. Using old paper, you can turn it into a brick that helps get fires going outside in a pit. Not only is this less harmful than gases in the air from a Duraflame, but it's cheap and won't cost you more than a few issues of the daily paper and some water!

The Ins And Outs Of City Carting

Waste management is a beautiful thing -- one moment you’re wheeling a can full of recyclables to the corner and the next, bringing it back into the yard. It’s cool when a plan comes together like this and works, however we’re missing something in the middle of the story -- where the waste goes, and who takes it away. In this particular story, City Carting is at the center of the story, providing a number of different services to those looking to rid their home of waste without any hassle.

The journey starts where any other would, by placing your garbage outside for pickup. From here, it anxiously awaits pickup by one of the many City Carting trucks on the route for the day. Once this has been completed, the truck will venture off to other homes, collecting similar waste before it enters the City Carting facility.

From here, and depending on what type of waste it is, it will then go through a sorting process. For recyclables, this means that it goes through a system in which everything becomes sorted properly, before being totally recycled. Our single stream recycling center is one of the biggest around and plays a huge role in how the process is carried out.

When you’re finished with your typical waste system, we can also provide roll-off containers for those big projects and home remodels. One will be dropped off and picked back up once you’re finished, leaving you with no other job than to fill it up!

We’re proud to serve over 11,000 independant clients throughout the areas we serve -- our best services come in the form of being on-time and effective at what we do.

How Can I Recycle Smarter?

In terms of our home home waste, recycling is one of the most important things we can practice in order to keep waste levels down, while also doing something positive for the environment. In terms of what you actually do to recycle, results can vary, so it’s important to take note of what it is you might be missing, and how you can capitalize on what’s also important. Below are a few things that you might be missing, that you can take advantage of at home, work, and other places as well!

Recycle Your Greens

Waste is divided into two major categories. One being technical, and the other being biological. In terms of biological, these are things that at the end of the life in terms of being used for a purpose, can begin to decompose and return to soil. Kitchen waste and garden waste are both major examples and are great things to use in terms of recyclable waste. Additionally, a compost heap outside that sees more traffic can also add things such as newspaper into them, which will also eventually break back down.

Recycle Water

Though it’s pretty cold now, recycled water can help you save on your water costs, as well as help the environment. Try putting a bucket in your shower when you bathe, and let the bucket fill up. If you’re using a biodegradable soap, you can use this water to hydrate plants, or wash the exterior of your home. This goes for bathwater too -- it might take some time to scoop it out of the tub, but think about how much extra water you’ll be saving for other activities!

In addition to practicing at home, City Carting & Recycling can help haul away your other recyclables. Get in touch with us today and figure out how!
