How You Can Have A Greener New Year in 2020

With every new year comes new goals for homeowners, and this year is no different!
There are a ton of things to consider when you’re setting your resolutions, however a
hot topic as of late has been how you can go greener. With emphasis at home and
around the country on sustainability, it becomes ever so apparent that there is a need
to be that much more conscious as to how we can help our earth flourish.

Smart Trash Use

Think about how many things you’re throwing out during the day and ask if there’s the
opportunity to use it better than it’s currently being used for. Things such as glass jars,
plastic bottles and smaller items can all be repurposed in some way to be used around
the house!

Composting

We’ve said this before, and we’ll say it again — composting is a key! Saving your old
food and turning it into nutrient rich soil is one of the best things you can do as a homeowner
or someone who is looking to make a difference. Not only does this allow for your waste
to have a use at some point, it reduces the amount that has to be sorted and thrown away!

Use Less Paper

Instead of worrying about what to put dinner on and then throwing it out afterwards,
try using something that’s a little more eco-friendly and has a multi-use option. Silverware
and dining sets are great places to begin and all it takes is a bit of water to wash!

For anything else waste-related, make sure you’re choosing someone who can help
with the reduction of and hauling away of your waste on a weekly basis!

Carting & Recycling has been doing for over 35 years. If you’re interested in dumpster

3 Mistakes You're Making With Your Waste in Winter

At home, the winter poses a great deal of threats to your house, and your comfort. Unfortunately, this can often lead to laziness when performing otherwise simple tasks. What is one of the most important things, is your waste, which has a huge effect on the fluidity of your home and how it operates. Learn more below as to how you are making simple mistakes with your waste this season.

Tree Disposal

After the holiday season, many homeowners will put their christmas tree out on the curb and expect it to disappear. In many cases however, this is not part of your scheduled pick-up and your waste company needs to be notified before collection day. This also sometimes comes with an added charge for the collection, which some don’t know. Without this, you might be stuck with a tree blocking important parts of the road until it’s taken away!

Food

Instead of throwing your extra food outside like many do, it’s very important to be mindful of where it’s going before collection. Animals are trying to stay warm during the winter, and they’re very hungry. This means they’ll probably do anything for a quick meal, even if that means destroying your trash in the process. To battle this, make sure you keep your lids securely tightened when there’s food in the can.

Of course, your waste is very important to us, and we want you to enjoy a warm, stress free season. To do so, let us help you with your waste needs and have your home operating at maximum efficiency all season long. To learn more about how we can help, get in contact with us today!

Things You're Throwing Away Wrong

Let’s face it; many of us simply open our trashcan and throw most of our garbage away without thinking. There’s no science behind it, but it does happen. Even sometimes when that garbage doesn’t necessarily belong there, it somehow gets grouped with everything else, and tossed to the curb. For the most part, people are responsible when it comes to things that get thrown out the wrong way, but not all of it. Below are a few of the things you might be throwing out an in incorrect manner — and how you can improve that process!

Food

One of the easiest things to toss into the trash is leftover food — but there’s a better use for that! Instead of just throwing the food away, begin a compost heap in your backyard and allow the older food to breakdown into nutrient rich soil that can help your plants grow during the next season! This also reduces that bad smell from inside your garbage can!

Plastic

Many of the plastic components that go along with everyday items are often thrown out when there’s a better home they can go to. Instead of just throwing it in the garbage, consider finding out the recycling tactics you can use in order to give that plastic a new life instead of taking up space in a landfill.

Household Items

Instead of just tossing things like lightbulbs and batteries in the trash, think before you do! These items are sometimes not suitable for normal garbage disposal and need to be transported to a location that will dispose of them safely. In order to do so, make sure you’re contacting local waste management companies and local municipalities for more information!

When it comes to needing help with your waste, make sure it’s something that can be handled by a professional team! With City Carting, we serve over 11,000 customers in the Ntamford and surrounding areas!

Way to Keep Your Business Spotless

The day to day routines and everything that goes along with owning a business can be a pain, but there’s one thing totally necessary for business owners — and that’s keeping it clean! Whether you’re an office building with 100 employees or a food chain on Main St, there’s always a need for some sort of cleaning; and that comes in all shapes and sizes! But what are the most effective ways to keep your business spotless? We’ve broken it down here.

Sanitize

Whether you’re in an office or a restaurant, sanitizing is extremely important. The one thing that many don’t realize is how fast germs can end up spreading during the day and night. For this reason, it’s important to wipe down everything you can from tables to door handles and more. This way, you can effectively keep everything clean for a long period of time and reduce the chances of germs spreading.

Control Your Waste

The garbage is one place for your waste, but it does go to other places after that. Instead of worrying about someone potentially not hauling it away, why not have that fixed before it becomes an issue? Trash left over can bring unwanted bugs, germs and critters — which is a big no-no. Enlisting the help of a waste management service that can help you store and haul away your trash is a key component in staying clean.

Of course, your home is also a key component in keeping clean, and to save yourself the hassle, it might be beneficial to find someone who can handle both jobs for you in one swing. If this is you, make sure City Carting is on your radar!

3 Ways To Be Better With Your Waste This Fall

Fall is here! Fireplaces and sweater season has finally approached! But with the fun of the season comes the abundance of debris in your yard. While it might look great for a few weeks, dragging around a rake every Sunday afternoon is less than pleasing. So what can be done with all of this debris during the fall? Well, before tossing it in bags and out to the curb, think about how you may be able to reuse it at home.

Firewood

Sticks and leaves are great for your fireplace.   Instead of throwing money away on tons of chopped wood, branches and sticks can be great fire-starters. Allow them to dry out and throw them in the firepit with a few piles of leaves! No more cold nights! Plus, who doesn't love the crackling of a fire?!

Fire starter logs

Grab a ton of those leaves and toss them into a bucket. Fill the bucket up with your leaves and paper and then add water. With another bucket the same size, insert it as if you were stacking them for storage. By pressing down on the top bucket, you'll begin packing down the leaves into a big puck. While this happens, the water will drain out from the top (tilting it to allow water to flow may help). Allow this to completely dry and then break apart as needed. Great DIY fire starters!

Compost

Composting is a great way to reuse this material for your own home. In a short amount of time, these materials can be broken down into nutrient rich soil to aid in extending the life of your plants. The best part about it, is that it's completely free! Talk about a bargain.

For all of your other recycling needs, make sure you give City Carting a call! We've been in business for years, offering our service to over 11,000 independent clients. Contact us today and see why City Carting makes the difference you need.

3 Things Every Home Needs For The Trash

At home, there are a number of things that you’re usually supposed to check up on — and your garbage is one of them! In terms of efficiency and cleanliness, a few factors come into play that make all the difference when it comes to your habits and how you handle the load inside. Below are just a few of the things or methods that should be adopted when it comes to your waste and how you can stay on top of everything dirty.

Easily Separate

One of the easiest methods to increasing your waste productivity is to separate everything from the get-go when it gets tossed in the trash. While this might seem like a lot of sifting, it’s actually much easier than you might think. Your paper should be disposed of in one box (if dry), and the normal garbage in the other. In the third can be your recyclables which take on a totally different form of life once they’re brought to a facility to be broken down and reused.

Reduce Odor

We can’t promise that all of your trash won’t ever smell, but there is something to be said about those who are actively trying to reduce the odors themselves. By adding odor eaters and keeping the inside of each can clean (typically once bi-weekly or monthly), you’re killing any bacteria, mopping up any spills, and preventing from permanent smells from entering the home.

Can Tops

This is a major key that many people forget once the garbage heads to the outside of your home. A top or can lid is extremely important to not only have, but to use as well when you’re at home. This prevents messes caused by critters and unwanted animals who generally look near the garbage for a snack at night. This will keep odor and garbage inside, as these ‘visitors’ tend to forget to clean up after themselves.

Additionally, there are a number of ways you can actually improve the life of everyone in your home with simple changes — and City Carting can help bring those! We have over 11,000 happy independant customers who are focused on making your trash disappear and head to where it belongs!

Reducing The Smell Of Garbage

The last thing anyone wants a whiff of is smelly garbage in the house. While it’s understood that no matter what ends up getting tossed away will eventually have some sort of odor, it doesn’t always have to be overpowering or in a place with high-traffic! Below, we’ve got a few tips and tricks to keep in mind that may help you reduce the smell in your home from unwanted garbage.

Meat

One of the most important things to remember about meat is that once it becomes warmer, the scent will arise and become stronger. Because of this, it’s important to be more mindful of when you’re tossing it into the garbage and when that garbage goes out to the curb. If you’ve got a few days before this happens, consider placing the unused, leftover or expired meat in the freezer and let it freeze until then. This way. There is no smell and it stays out frozen for most of the time it’s in the garbage — until it’s safely away from the affected area.

Garbage Placement

Of course, the location of your garbage can is also a big factor in keeping the smell away from you. If it bothers you a lot or you’re someone with less room throughout the house, maybe consider keeping your garbage can right outside of a door, or in a cabinet in the room. This saves space and masks the scent from ever re-entering the room!

Compost/Recycle

Another simple hack to your waste management is to reuse and recycle as much as you can. Tossing old food into a compost heap can get rid of the odors quickly and provide you with rich soil in the future, while recycling can get the bottles cans and more out of the way and into an area where when taken away, will have a second lease on life.

Of course, the garbage eventually has to go somewhere — and we wouldn’t want anyone else to take it from you! Join the City Carting team and be one of over 11,000 who are completely satisfied with our services!

Improve Waste Habits At Home

There isn’t much in your life that can’t be improved with just a few lifestyle changes — and your footprint at home is one of those things! Speaking on behalf of the waste in your home, there are a ton of different ways to approach how you handle the extra load and collection of trash — and it’s very easy to alter your plans! See below how we’ve figured out a few ways to improve your waste habits, little by little!

Dispose Of Your Trash

Getting rid of the waste is one of the biggest things you can do in order to improve life. Instead of having a ton of garbage lying around, make sure it finds its way into the respective trash cans. This is also done by hiring a waste management company who is capable of handling it all — we might know someone for that job….

Compost Your Food

Another way to reduce footprint and sustain new life and vegetation on your property is to think about how you can use your old food to grow new food! This can be done by composting the natural foods into a compost heap in your yard, and allowing it to break down into soil. This way, you have nutrient rich food for plants, and potentially new food!

Recycle

Instead of using one-time use products, try recycling most of the components you use! Natural beauty products are great places to start because many of the ingredients can be found in stores without the need for pressurized aerosol cans. In order to improve how you’re treating the air and environment, natural and recyclable options are needed.

If you’re in need of assistance when it comes to waste, give City Carting a call and we’d be happy to show you how exactly the quality of your life can be improved with a little waste management!

Where Does My Recycling Go?

You drop your bottles and cans off at the curb, and that’s the end of it for them, right? Well, maybe to you that is! The truth is, your recycled goods don’t end up in a landfill, and they’re definitely not going anywhere where they shouldn’t be (as long as you’re properly disposing of them). But many homeowners and consumers don’t think much of their plastic and aluminum goods once they’ve left their hands — and we’re here to show you a bit more about the recycling process that goes along with it!

Disposal

The first step is proper disposal. You have a designated recycling can for this reason, and all of your plastic bottles, cans and so forth get tossed in there — great! What’s important to note is that just by doing this, you’re preventing it from sitting in a yard for decades, decomposing, or worse, doing harm to the environment or people. From the moment it is picked up, it takes on a new life.

Recycling Process

At City Carting, we’re home to one of the biggest single-stream recycling centers on the coast — and we’re proud of that! We take the time to sift through all of the items that can be used and utilized, separating them into the respective areas they need to go. From here, they’re sorted, inspected for quality, and sent off to where they are given a new life!

New Items

Plastic bottles are recycled and used for new plastic, as are aluminum cans and paper. All of these items have the chance to become something great, while also repeating the process of their lifespan in whatever they might be. A park bench, new bottle, playground for kids — the opportunities to make a positive impact are endless. And this beautiful cycle of life and preservation starts with YOUR action!

To learn more about how your recycling can take on a whole new life (literally!), make sure to consul with a City Carting representative as to how we can help you get on the right track for a greener lifestyle both at home, in your community, and as a planet.
