3 Things To Note Before Buying A Home

When looking for a home, there are a number of things that you should be aware of before making an offer. Oftentimes, prospective home buyers don't necessarily do all of the research they might've needed, which can translate into fixes for things that should have worked in the first place. It's important to visit these topics before offering any cash on a home and assume that there may be necessary fixes in the future. Take a look below and see what you should be looking for when buying your next home!

Flooring

Some people look at flooring and don't think about those sought creaks and separations that might be appearing in the area. What this essentially means is that unless you're willing to live with these imperfections, they'll likely cost you a bit of money as time goes on. It's important to also note that some fixes, while they might look small, can actually end up being much more expensive than anticipated.

Appliances

What might look like a good quality appliance might be a disaster waiting to happen, and there's no way to tell whether or not it'll be a big issue. Account for replacement of major appliances at the home to ensure that you're getting a top quality product with a warranty that won't leave you without a fridge, should it go bad.

Waste Management

Its very important to do your research on this topic before you assume someone will be at the door to take your garbage each morning. In some areas, you may need to recruit your own independent service and that can seem like a pain. Luckily, providers such as City Carting make the process much easier than you might think!

At the end of the day, your waste is much more important than you might think, and it's important to have it handled effectively.

Effective Home Remodeling Tips

A home remodel is a few things at once — fun, rewarding, and sometimes a bit tiring. But the process comes with the satisfaction of a finished product at the end, which is the best part! But with every project comes the opportunity to improve the effectiveness, and that is extremely important if you’re involved — after all, it’s your money! Below are a few of the ways you can increase the productivity of your home remodel and save yourself a bit of cash during the process.

Call On Friends

When it comes to simple projects, nothing beats having a few of your buddies come over and help you with the project. Whether it’s a helping hand or they have a ton of experience with what you’re doing, there are more benefits than one might think. The best part? Usually the assistance of a friend comes at a small price — lunch and a few beers usually do the trick!

Source Used

In some cases, used fixtures are just as good as something new on the showroom floor. Whether this is an old mirror or a few fixtures for a new room, nothing beats a deal! Especially because most of these items can be prepped and redone to look like they’re fresh out of the box. Save yourself a few hundred dollars and see how you can get thrifty.

Toss Waste Yourself

Instead of worrying about a contractor or someone else charging you more for the work, you can enlist your own companies to do the work for you in terms of your waste. Especially when you have a ton of waste, it’s going to have to go somewhere. Enlist the help of someone who can provide you with an option that fits everything you need, and the ease of having it taken away when you’re finished.

Where You Should Be Throwing Your Trash Away

There are a number of things that must make their way to the trash, and they can't just be forgotten! When it comes to the garbage accumulated at your own home, there are only a few options you have -- reuse, recycle, and throw away. Instead of worrying about what to do, its better to figure out what it is exactly you can do to and with your garbage. Below are a few refreshers as who what you can do with your trash once you're done using it.

Traditional garbage.

At home, we accumulate a lot. So much so, that when garbage day comes, we have a mountain of trash at the curb. But one of the benefits to knowing what you're actually throwing away is a key component. If it's certainly ready for the trash, that's where it should go. But your food and other items might have a second chance at life! Take that food and toss it into a compost pile for rich soil at home. The rest, determine if it's worth tossing away or not.

Recyclables

For the things that can't go right into the trash, consider tossing it in your recycling can. Plastic, aluminum and glass are the best items to recycle and are important to keep tabs on. Not only is it great to send back for repurposing, but you can also repurpose them yourself into items that benefit home wellness as well!

Of course, with something like this, you're going to need someone to handle the job that is your trash. When that time comes, make sure you're sticking with a reputable company for your waste management! With 11,000 independent customers, city carting is an excellent option for everything waste!

What Cant Be Thrown Away?

At home, there’s always going to be waste, or something that needs to be thrown away. With an independent waste management company by your side, this process becomes even easier when they haul it away! But sometimes, that trash doesn’t quite belong in the bin you’ve tossed it in, and needs to go somewhere else. While there are a ton of things that can be taken away via the garbage can, there are also a ton that cannot. Below are just a few things that can’t be thrown away in your normal trash, and must be disposed of somewhere else.

Aerosol Cans

Aerosol cans are pressurized, and sometimes can contain hazardous chemicals and materials inside. These can include cleaning products, spray paint and more. In order to combat the potential of this rupturing, make sure these are disposed of at a household hazardous waste collection facility.

Car Batteries

It’s very important that you do not dispose of car batteries in the normal trash, waterways, or bury them. Because these contain extremely hazardous chemicals such as lead-acid and corrosive electrolytes, they can do serious harm to areas in which they are placed if the chemicals were to escape from the housing. These can be recycled at most automotive shops and recycling centers in your area. Some also offer rebates on new batteries!

Light Bulbs

Depending on the light bulb, there are a number of options you have in terms of disposing them. Your normal household bulb (incandescent) can be thrown in the trash, but make sure to wrap them up in case they break. For fluorescent and string lighting, it’s important to recycle these at facilities who are willing to take them. Fluorescent lights are more sensitive due to the hazardous chemicals inside, and should be disposed of at your local hazardous waste center.

Of course, should you have any concerns with even the smallest of items, it never hurts to give your waste management provider a call to clear up any confusion — to learn more about what it is you might not be able to toss away, give us a ring anytime!
