If you've been feeling a little stuck trying to reduce your waste, upcycling is a
great place to begin your eco-friendly waste management journey! Here, we've
given you some ideas for great upcycling projects you can do right in the
comfort of your own home.

Plastic Spoon Wreath Mirror
What you'll need:
-Mirror (any size, but the bigger the mirror, the more spoons you'll need)
-Plastic spoons (any color, you can paint them later)
-Hot glue
-Cardboard
What to do:
-Begin by tracing your mirror onto large cardboard, then tracing a larger circle
around the one you've just traced for your mirror. Trace the larger circle according
to how many spoons you would like to use.
-Next, break the handles off of your spoons.
-Begin hot gluing the spoons, excluding the handles, onto the circle. Begin gluing
closest to the inside circle, but make sure they don't go outside the lines of the
larger circle.
-After you've finished putting on spoons, you can use spray or acrylic paint to
paint them. (optional)
-Attach the mirror to the inside circle using hot glue
-Hang up and see how good your up cycled project is!

Book Page Art
What you'll need:
-Old book or magazine pages

-Stencil (optional)
What to do:
-Figure out what you are going to write on the book pages. It can be a quote,
a banner for a party, or anything else you want!
-Begin stenciling or free handing the letters you would like on the page. One
letter or word per page looks best.
-If using stencils, paint, remove the stencil, and let dry. If free handing, paint
over the letters you outlined.
-Hang up!

Old Sock Hot packs

-Start with clean socks
-If using essential oils, mix the rice and oil in bowl
-Pour rice in about 3/4 way to the top
-Sew the opening of the socks. (hot glue will not work, as it will melt if it gets hot)
-Heat in the microwave on one minute intervals until warm.

3 Ways To Save Money With Your Garbage

If you’re managing your own apartment building, or any other type of
commercial property, the reality is that you will likely need to hire a waste
management service to take care of and haul away your trash. Instead of
figuring out the logistics on your own and spending time during your day
to do so, enlisting the help of an already established company can be a
great way to save time, money, and a ton of headaches. Here’s how:

1. Keeps Property Clean.

Having your waste hauled away on a regular schedule can help save you
money just based on the cleanliness alone! Think about waste and the
amount of bacteria and germs it can accumulate and help spread when it’s
sitting stagnant. Encountering a mold or insect problem due to poor waste
collection can end up costing hundred — even thousands in extra work.

2. Your Business Contributes to Eco-Friendly Initiatives

Typically, whenever you hire a waste management service that is committed
to providing an eco-friendly environment, you are also doing your part in keeping
your surroundings free from disposed waste that builds up large landfills.
This is because those waste management service teams can help to ensure
reusable waste is recycled in the proper places. This, in turn, saves these
communities money and time while recycling items that can be used again
in a more productive manner.

3. Composting

Composting provides you with both an eco-friendly option ro recycle, and a way
to save money in the spring. By composting old foods, you can allow them to
break down in a backyard composting heap and eventually use that newly created
soil for your plants and shrubbery! This allows you to save a few bucks at your
local hardware store and get the supplies you need without leaving the house!

Of course, hiring a waste management company is something to also consider
when there’s more garbage than you can handle during your day. If you’re a
home or local business in the Norwalk area, consider a service that has designated
pickup days and a number of benefits to their work!

3 Ways Trash Is Hurting Your Home

If you have waste piling up in your home, it could be hurting not only your home,
but those in it! Trash can be a disgusting thing to get rid of, and frankly, there’s
not always enough time in the day to sort and haul it out on your own time. With
work, school and other activities, it can be nearly impossible to ensure that you
have everything recycled and out of sight. Another threat is the fear of germs
and bacteria, which can linger in the trash as they sit around your home. For
these reasons, the proper removal of your trash is imperative — and having
someone do the work for you is even better!

How Trash is Hurting Your Home

  1. Appearance. If you have a bunch of trash in your kitchen or around
  2. your home,
  3. it can give an unsightly appearance. This can make your home look
  4. disgusting to others; and finding guests for that summer BBQ will be
  5. quite the task! In addition to others not liking your home’s look, it’s
  6. likely the last thing you’re going to want to come home to after a long
  7. day.
2. Odor. Trash in your home can make your home smell like a dumpster.
Trash, as it starts to decompose, can emit awful smells and make your
home almost unbearable to hang out in. The longer the trash stays in your
home, the worse it smells. It’s important here to dispose of it as soon as
you’re finished with it — whatever it may be.
3. Health risks. Having trash in your home can put your home at risk of
being harbor for bad bacteria. This can lead to you and your family members carrying,
harboring, feeling the negative effects of bacteria. Additionally,
trash attracts critters which are also the carriers of many different diseases
that humans can contract.

Finding a Reputable Company

Instead of letting trash become a problem for your home and family, consider
getting a reputable and reliable waste management company to come out take
care of the job. In addition to scheduled pick-up days for normal trash, recyclables
and other harmful waste products can be collected all throughout the week to
ensure nothing is around your home longer than it needs to be.

Fun Facts About Composting At Home

Keeping your home healthy is never just pertaining to the inside — there’s a ton of
property to be kept well on the outside as well! Believe it or not, there are actually
ways to keep your home healthy outdoors by strategically utilizing your waste.
One of the best organic methods to this madness, is composting! By using old uneaten
foods, you can effectively improve the way your shrubbery and plants react to the earth
by feeding them.

Composting is one way to effectively recycle your old food and allow it to break down
into nutrient rich soil for your plants to gobble up. This method is popular for those
who want to be friendly to both their environment, waste company and more!

In order to begin the process, you’ll first need an area to dump the waste to allow it to
begin breaking down. This doesn’t actually take any fancy equipment at all, rather just
a simple pile of your old and unwanted food products. To keep it away from animals and
critters however, it might be a good idea to build a four-walled area with a lid for
dumping. This way, nothing can get in and get in the way of it’s process of breaking down.

Tossing old food, peppers, eggshells and more into this pile and allowing the natural
deterioration process to take over will eventually produce a nutrient rich soil that can
be applied anywhere around your home! This free method works wonders due to all
of the contents within the food staying put as it breaks down. This allows it to eventually
be absorbed by a living organism or plant once removed from the heap and introduced
elsewhere.

Composting in the Stamford, CT area has been one of the most effective ways to
implement a healthier lifestyle for both you and your home’s environment, with a ton of
benefits! To learn more about how this can help your home, get in contact with your local
waste management company to see what they recommend setting aside within your normal
waste haul.
