DIY Projects You Should Bookmark This Spring

At home, excess waste can become an issue — whether it’s recyclable or not! Instead of
harping on things that were previously taking up space in a closet, basement or trash can,
turn them into something effective and usable! Below are a few more DIY projects you can
do at home to reduce waste and make use of old items you once thought were done for.

T-Shirts

Have old t shirts you never wear? Consider making a blanket! Cut out equal-sized squares
for each of the shirts, and sew them together into the desired sizes! If you’re looking for
something a little heavier and warmer, you can also cut them at the sleeves and neck, sew
them together and add a bit of cotton or feathers! This makes a very colorful and comfy
comforter for guests spending the night.

Old Bottles

In the Stamford area, critters such as birds and squirrels seem to be running around in
packs — so why not befriend them and keep the wildlife safe?! Cut an old bottle at the
bottom and flip it upside down. Notch a few holes by the top to allow for bird food and
other food to slowly fall out as it’s eaten, and thread a string through the top! Add a catch-bowl
at the bottom and glue it on to give those little mammals something to sit on as they chomp away!

Wrapping Paper

After a holiday, it’s custom to throw out the wrapping paper — but these things make
such a good addition to picture frames and posters! Take big pieces of the extra paper
and wrap the borders of your frames to give them a wild and colorful look wherever they’re
being hung or displayed. This brightens up any room and looks totally custom!

3 Things You Can Do For A Cleaner Home

At home, minding your waste as well as your home’s health is extremely important, however it’s common for many of them to overlook some of the key ways to be better at that each day. One of the best things that many do during the warmer months (mainly the Spring) is purge their home to create a better environment for the future. We’ve got a few things that you can add to your home to make it cleaner, as well as more comfortable!

Humidifiers/Dehumidifiers

Depending on the climate in your home, it can either be very dry, or way too humid. While this might not seem like a huge deal, it can have an effect on things like your skin, flooring, walls, and appliances! To combat this, make sure you’re regulating your humidity levels at home and keeping them within a comfortable range.

Disposals

The odor from garbage can be horrible, and there’s no surprise as to why some kitchens and dining areas smell worse than they could. Instead of throwing your garbage into a can, try and hide it somewhere unseen, or create a disposal that leads it into an area where the smell won’t stay around.

Recycling

It’s easy to recycle some of the smaller items in your home, but many times, things like lightbulbs and other wasteful products get left around your home to gather dust. Instead of letting it pile up, why not create a recycling plan for your things and take them to a center in which they can safely be dealt with?

With City Carting, our goal is to help you handle your waste as soon as possible, and we’ll do it with ease! Come see why over 11,000 of our clients are still with us today using the same great services we offer to both homes and businesses!

Waste Resolutions You Should Be Making This Year

As the new year is finally upon us, it’s time to think about how you can make the most of
the new year and put some of your resolutions into place! It’s not uncommon to see some
of the independent resolutions end up not lasting throughout the year — but ones at home
can become a permanent part of your lifestyle!

Recycle More

It’s easy to say you’re going to do something and get lazy, but making the process
easier makes the change easier as well! Think about adding a second garbage pail
inside your home or out near the one that hauls your normal trash away. This way you
can separate anything that should be recycled vs things that get taken when normal
collection is happening.
Switch To Non-Chemical

By now, many brands have developed products with little to no chemicals that are
also meant for cleaning and keeping your home tidy. In order to make sure that you’re
staying eco-friendly, think of buying these products and reusing the containers that they
come in as you run out of the product. Less plastic and more room for natural cleaning tools!

Reuse

Instead of throwing out bottles of water or plates after a BBQ, try to implement a strategy
or lifestyle that promotes reusing of items that are on your agenda every day. Insulated
water bottles and washable plates are great places to start!
