DIY Projects You Should Bookmark This Spring

At home, excess waste can become an issue — whether it’s recyclable or not! Instead of
harping on things that were previously taking up space in a closet, basement or trash can,
turn them into something effective and usable! Below are a few more DIY projects you can
do at home to reduce waste and make use of old items you once thought were done for.

T-Shirts

Have old t shirts you never wear? Consider making a blanket! Cut out equal-sized squares
for each of the shirts, and sew them together into the desired sizes! If you’re looking for
something a little heavier and warmer, you can also cut them at the sleeves and neck, sew
them together and add a bit of cotton or feathers! This makes a very colorful and comfy
comforter for guests spending the night.

Old Bottles

In the Stamford area, critters such as birds and squirrels seem to be running around in
packs — so why not befriend them and keep the wildlife safe?! Cut an old bottle at the
bottom and flip it upside down. Notch a few holes by the top to allow for bird food and
other food to slowly fall out as it’s eaten, and thread a string through the top! Add a catch-bowl
at the bottom and glue it on to give those little mammals something to sit on as they chomp away!

Wrapping Paper

After a holiday, it’s custom to throw out the wrapping paper — but these things make
such a good addition to picture frames and posters! Take big pieces of the extra paper
and wrap the borders of your frames to give them a wild and colorful look wherever they’re
being hung or displayed. This brightens up any room and looks totally custom!
