Reusing Boxes & Cardboard

Cardboard is arguably one of the most common things you’ll find in a garage, basement,
or in storage at a home. Packages come in this material, they’re used for moving, and even
basic insulation and fragile material protection! But cardboard has more use than you might
think -- especially beyond the normal things it’s tasked with helping out with. Check out some
of the cooler ideas you can use cardboard for at home!

Insulation

Whether you’ve got pets, or you’re just a little cold, cardboard can provide a cheap insulation
for you during the colder months of the year. An outdoor pet home can be double-lined with
cardboard between, underneath and inside -- and alternatively, the same thing can be done
inside of a makeshift shed or treehouse! These small additions of wind reducing and
nsulating material is a cheap option usually not thought of by many. Just keep it dry!

Work Station

If you’re the type of person who works on the floor a lot, cardboard might be you and your
driveway’s best friend. Imagine doing an oil change with the ability to protect your concrete
and your back at the same time -- with almost no added cost! Slide a large piece of cardboard
under the car and use it to rest on and catch oil drippings.

Crafts!

With the kids (or even by yourself) using cardboard to create little crafts that can be decorated
is an easy and free way to pass time and get in touch with your creative side! Additionally,
cardboard can be used to help separate items in drawers and cabinets that need a bit of
sprucing up! Just paint and enjoy!

New Year Resolutions For Your Home

The new year, and the new decade is on the horizon -- and while it’s important to think about
what you can be doing for your own life, maybe an easier resolution to also add to the list
can include things for your home! A few things we feel are great resolutions for you can be
found below!

A Schedule

Cleaning stinks -- and nobody wants to spend the entire day doing it on the weekend. So
instead of making it something you slave over for hours at a time, dedicate at least 15
minutes per day in tidying up one room in the house. When you’re done, move to the next,
and keep that system going each day. Not only will the house get clean, but you’ll feel
better stepping back and seeing how much you accomplished!

Waste Management

A second garbage can will only run you a few dollars, and an extra bag every few days.
With this, you can safely separate things like food and actual waste from one another,
and start something a bit more useful with those things -- like a compost pile, or something
else eco-friendly. The options for you are endless and it’s never a bad idea to consciously
throw things out in different ways.

Project Work

Before hiring someone to do the job for you, think about some of the smaller projects you
wanted to accomplish, and consider how you can get them done right the first time. This
way, you can learn and understand what needs to be done, and learn a new skill at the same
time. We think that’s a win-win!

Holiday Cleanup Ideas

At home, whether hosting or not, cleaning up after yourself is an idea that can help you
feel more productive, make your home appear larger, and create a cozier living space!
However in many situations, holiday cleanup only occurs once after everything is put away
or set up -- and that can lead to bad habits! Instead, check out a few ways you can
incorporate cleaning into a routine schedule.

Dusting

Although dust doesn’t appear overnight, after moving a lot of things around at home,
dust can accumulate in spaces you didn’t originally see it, and can cause allergy flareups
and a lot of sneezing. In an effort to combat this, make sure you dust before moving items
around, and afterward as well, just to be safe. This helps everyone and keeps your home
nice and sparkling!

Sweeping

Similar to dusting, the holidays can bring a number of other things into your home that
you’re not used to seeing. Extra food, feet tracking in dirt, and other activities can begin to
create dirt and buildup on floors, carpeting, rugs and more. Make sure a weekly routine
includes breaking out the broom and vacuum!

Separation

Let’s face it- -- the holidays are full of food, gifts, and other items that otherwise take up
space in your garbage can, and around your home. Make sure to properly separate things
in your garbage for easy cleanup and removal (and collection), and you’ll thank yourself
when it’s done. Food, paper, recyclables and other items should find their way into different
bags and receptacles in order to create a seamless disposal process.

Does Cold Weather Affect My Waste?

As the season shifts into the colder climate, many home and business owners have questions about their waste and the practices that may or may not change with it. Typically, there are a few minor shifts that can contribute to your waste when the temperatures begin to drop, but it’s nothing to worry much about. Below are just a few things you should take note of as the seasons change.

Keep Lids Closed

As with any season, animals love rummaging through your trash for a tasty treat to snack on. The problem is, they’re not so good at cleaning up. In addition to a nice meal, some animals might seek refuge in your garbage cans during the colder months. To combat this, make sure your lids remain closed at all times and if needed, add a bungee cord to the top for added protection.

Inclement Weather

Does weather make a difference? Most of the time, no — but for certain circumstances, there are things to look out for when you’re planning on tossing the garbage to the curb. Before a bad snowstorm or predicted event with bad weather, certain garbage services may be delayed or postponed to a later date. To find out more about this, keep up to date with your provider and look for updates via their website or email systems!

Of course, choosing a provider that can handle everything without fail is one of the best first steps to success. With City Carting, we provide everything you need to make sure you’re ready for the task at hand!

Providing Construction Solutions With City Carting

Remodeling your home can sometimes be the daunting thorn in your side that you just can’t seem to escape. When it’s finally time to begin the process, there are a number of factors that make up a few things, such as completion time, cost and more. But when there’s a job to be done, there’s always a way to streamline it — and for City Carting, we specialize in helping you do just that!

Construction Containers

Depending on the size of your job, the size of your container will matter greatly! When you’re planning out the job and what needs to be done, take into consideration how much watse and product will be making its way into the container, and select a size that best fits your needs. Our trucks can help by dropping it off when you need it, and picking it back up when you’re done — as long as the size is where it needs to be!

Trash Removal

One of the best benefits for selecting a waste management provider to handle the waste is the lack of attention you need to pay to it. As mentioned, when you’re finished with everything and it’s time to take the container back, we bring everything to one of our premium locations and sort it as necessary. In short, we do all of the hard work so you don’t have to!

When we set out to make the process easier for our clients, we deliver! That’s why over 11,000 customers and counting trust City Carting with all of their waste management needs!

Why Does My Garbage Smell Bad?

You open the lid of your garbage can to a pungent odor that shouldn’t be there — there are only a few things in the trash! This is an all too common occurrence, with many homeowners fearful of opening their lids to reveal the bad smell. But this doesn’t always have to be the case, and being more mindful about your garbage is a sure-fire way to reduce the amount of bad smells that.

Watch What You Toss

When it comes to specific things that go in the trash, meats and other perishables can lead to bad smells after one day. Instead of tossing the scraps from your meal or trimmings from the raw meat, try freezing them in a bag until the night before the garbage is supposed to go out. This way, it’s impossible for it to smell, won’t be in the trash long enough to produce an odor, and is easily stored! Additionally, animals likely won’t be able to smell the meat, and wont rummage through your trash.

Clean The Can

It’s obvious that not every single particle ends up in the trash when it’s thrown out. Because of this, routine cleaning should also be done periodically to remove germs, excess liquid, and food particles that might have wandered off while being thrown away. This also goes for your outdoor can as well, which could use a bit of soap and a hose down every now and then.

Use New Bags

Sometimes, the run of the mill garbage bags aren’t so good at keeping the smell out from food. Luckily, modern innovations have helped forge new types of material that can help absorb bad smelling food and liquids. Spend the extra dollar next time you’re shopping for a box of bags and see if this helps make a difference in your garbage.

Likewise, you should also have a qualified company that can handle the garbage you’re trying to get rid of. With City Carting, our professionals are dedicated to ridding your home of the garbage that stinks and bring it somewhere to be sorted and processed. If you’re in need, make sure you’re enlisting the help of someone who can do just that — help!

Commercial Business Waste Management Solutions

Owning your own business is sometimes tough work — and the list of things to do on your own can sometimes feel like it’s never ending. Instead of worrying about the little things, have those taken care of in other ways so that you can focus on what really matters — your business! One way to take a load off is to have your trash handled by a service, rather than taking care of it yourself. See how that can benefit you below.

Roll Off Service

When you enlist the help of a waste management service, your garbage becomes their sole focus. Picking it up and taking it away is a big part of what they do, which helps keep your location clean, trash free, and of course, with less chores on your own plate. Think about this the next time you don’t have enough time to get what you need done.

Container Service

Let’s say you’re remodeling your storefront or you’re just in need of something to put your trash into — there’s an answer for that! With front or rear load containers available, the process becomes easier than ever. You just fill it up, and we empty it and take it away! For the larger projects, we can drop off a big container for everything to fit in. These can handle so much more than the average load and are built for remodeling jobs and more. If this is something you need, it’s definitely worth looking into — especially if you don’t want to haul your own garbage away!

Of course, as a business, there are also a ton of other things to monitor, and if your garbage is taking you an extended amount of time, it’s a good idea to think about how you can

How You Can Reuse Old Items in Your Home!

Saving money and waste is something we love doing at City Carting — and we’re constantly striving to be better at that each day! What comes with the reality of your waste also is the reality that it can be saved and used later on for something useful and fresh! Take a peek below at some of the upcycling projects we’ve compiled for you below!

Wallpaper Clock

Instead of looking for texture on the walls, why not apply that to a clock? With any old clock, you can remove the outer trim if it exists and create a flat profile. From there, take any old paper you have (like wrapping paper or fabric, and wrap the face of the clock! Using an adhesive, you can keep the look flat and flush without much work, which creates a whole new item in your home — and saves you money from buying a new one!

Custom Bookends

Nobody uses house phones anymore, right? Of course not! Why not take some of those old pieces of history and turn them into something creative? For example, that old wired telephone can be sourced at yard sales or even off of your wall! Grab one of these and affix it to a thin piece of metal or piece of plastic on the bottom. This can be done with industrial-grade glue to hold it in place or by drilling holes through both items. Once finished, you can paint it any color and then place books between the two!

Denim Coasters

Instead of throwing those jeans away (if they can’t be donated), why not turn them into something vintage and functional? Cutting denim into ⅜” wide strips a few feet long will allow you to roll them into a circle that acts as a coaster. Grab an adhesive or a needle and thread to keep it in place, and place on counters! These also help insulate surfaces from hot and cold drinks!

Of course, not everything can be turned into something cool, and for those things, that’s ok. Just make sure your waste is being taken care of by someone who can effectively take it away and bring to necessary parties!

Fun Recycling You Can Do In 2019

We know — it’s too early to think about the cold! Or is it? In fact, with fall right around the corner, there’s a lot of things that entails. With the favorites being pumpkin patches, apple cider and hayrides, the season brings a ton to do! And at home, fall is especially important as well. That’s why recycling should be on your mind — to keep you and your home healthy! Take advantage of the season and start these projects for easy and fun fall activities.

Leaves

One of the best ways to keep your leaves year round and get good use out of them is to use them as firestarting logs for your bonfires and firepits. Simply pack them into a bucket and dampen them, pack them in to dry, and then when they’re dried out they double as a starting log!

Plastic & Glass

It’s always fun to create lighting outside that is cheap and effective. With plastic and glass, you can create different lighting fixtures that both look great, and help you light the way without breaking the bank or needing to buy a new product. This is a great way to tastefully accent your home on a budget!

Recycle!

Small projects even as simple as creating a home-made dog bed from blankets and an old storage bin are great ways to stay green and make a difference. A project like this needs nothing more than your old bin, a blanket, and an x-acto knife to cut the hole big enough for your furry friend. This keeps them warm in the colder months as well if they’d like to play!

Of course, managing your waste is also a great tool to have in your back pocket — and it can save you time and effort! Enlist the help of a service who is committed to hauling away your trash each week, where we can make great use of it for the future!

Keeping Animals Out Of Your Trash This Fall

One of the absolute last things you need is to wake up to your garbage spread out across the lawn, with the reality that it was rummaged through by a bunch of animals while you were asleep. Now, in addition to the fact that you have to clean it all up, you’re forced to figure out how you can prevent this from happening again. While there are some easy fixes to this problem, we’ve also got a few below for you to try out.

Bring Your Garbage Out Late

Instead of letting the garbage sit in the bin for a few days, bring it outside the night before. This won’t always be a sure-fire answer to the issue, but it will help you get some of the trash out of the path of raccoons and other animals. The less they smell when they’re roaming around, the better — and less for you to have to clean!

Lids

Some garbage tops don’t come with lids, and if this is something you don’t own, it can be an issue. Instead of risking it, purchase bins with lids on top and have it latched down at night so that it’s impossible for a small critter to open it. This keeps smells out, and also deters them from coming back in the future once they know it’s impossible for them to break it open.

Bungee Cords

If you do have lids and the animals are still getting in, they might have outsmarted your current attempts to keep them out. Instead of letting this happen, grab a set of bungee cords and latch the lid down with some extra force. This is a perfect way to surely keep them from entering the garbage, as the force of the cords is much more than they’re capable of unfastening. This way, everything stays safe and inside the can until it’s picked up!

If a service is something you’re also in need of in terms of your garbage, make sure you’re enlisting the help of a company with a proven track record of success. City Carting is manned with over 11,000 happy clients who choose us to take care of their waste — you can be our next one!
