How Can I Recycle Smarter?

In terms of our home home waste, recycling is one of the most important things we can practice in order to keep waste levels down, while also doing something positive for the environment. In terms of what you actually do to recycle, results can vary, so it’s important to take note of what it is you might be missing, and how you can capitalize on what’s also important. Below are a few things that you might be missing, that you can take advantage of at home, work, and other places as well!

Recycle Your Greens

Waste is divided into two major categories. One being technical, and the other being biological. In terms of biological, these are things that at the end of the life in terms of being used for a purpose, can begin to decompose and return to soil. Kitchen waste and garden waste are both major examples and are great things to use in terms of recyclable waste. Additionally, a compost heap outside that sees more traffic can also add things such as newspaper into them, which will also eventually break back down.

Recycle Water

Though it’s pretty cold now, recycled water can help you save on your water costs, as well as help the environment. Try putting a bucket in your shower when you bathe, and let the bucket fill up. If you’re using a biodegradable soap, you can use this water to hydrate plants, or wash the exterior of your home. This goes for bathwater too -- it might take some time to scoop it out of the tub, but think about how much extra water you’ll be saving for other activities!

In addition to practicing at home, City Carting & Recycling can help haul away your other recyclables. Get in touch with us today and figure out how!
